Our 2012 Spring Trip

We are back from our visit to The Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the surrounding National Forests and other natural areas in North Carolina and Tennessee.

We take nature's beauty as a witness of God's love for us, and are happy to share that beauty with you in our photographs and descriptions of what we saw.

Please checking back as we fill in missing entries.

April 19, 2012- The John C. Campbell Folk School

Letty had read about this school that teaches woodworking and traditional crafts, and always wanted to visit it. The school is located in rolling hills and made up of several separate buildings, residences for students, a campground for students, a dining room for students and a gift shop.

I visited the woodworking shop and basket and broom shop. A basket making class was in session, but I was able to talk to the instructor and learn a little about how the tradiitonal baskets were made from black ash split logs.

I also visited the woodturning shop and talked to a woodturner from Kansas who was taking the class there.
