April 16th, 2012- The Wasilik Poplar Trail

Tom hiked this 6/10 mile trail out and back going down the mountain side from a parking area near the Standing Indian Campground in the Nantahala National Forest near Franklin, NC. The Appalachian Trail passes within 5 feet of the parking area and we saw hikers that were attempting the whole trail, which runs from Georgia to Maine. Since I don't think I'm ever going to hike the whole thing, I decided to take my own picture when I get a chance to be on the trail for a short while, or just crossing the trail. Here, along with photos from the trail is my latest AT (standard Abbr. for Appalachian Trail) photo.
Toothwort in the hollowed out base of a tree.
Switchback on the trail- left down the trail - right up to the parking area.
A large tree and a man (not the large tree that gives the trail its name.)

Trillium (note the 3 petals and 3 leaves)
